EPISODE 25: CHANCELLOR DAVID C. BANKS POST-PANDEMIC PLAN FOR NYC PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Chancellor David Banks & Ms. Mac at the Schomburg Center on Chancellor’s Day June 2022

As with every school district around the country, it was difficult returning back to a five day-a-week school schedule after remote learning, massive staff shortages, inconsistent health guidelines, the resurgence of Covid-19, the Uvalde school shooting in Texas, and other attacks against teachers.  These last few years of teaching before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and after have been brutal. And it impacted HallPassbreak producing more episodes last season.  It also explains why there is a nationwide teacher shortage today.

A lot of changes are needed to get New York City back on track. The newly elected, Mayor Eric Adams, chose David C. Banks, a former educator and founder of the Eagle Academy Foundation to be the next Chancellor of NYC Public Schools.  In this episode, he used his opening speech at City & State’s 2022 Education Summit held at the Jewish Heritage Museum to explain his plans for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year for largest school district in the country.  Thanks to Educators for Excellence, HallPassBreak was able to attend this event for free.
