In part three of City & State’s 2022 Education in New York Summit held at the Jewish Heritage Museum, the concerns of oversized classrooms, funding, and social emotional learning were topics for city and state officials to address.
The third panel titled Innovation and Development in NY’s Education addressed the various educational disparities faced during the pandemic. The panel was led by President of the United Federation of Teachers, Michael Mulgrew. The panel included Lester W. Young, Chancellor of the State Board of Regents; State Senator John C Liu, Chair of the NYC Education Committee; Rebecca C. Watts, Regional Vice President at Western Governors University; Marjorie D. Parker President and CEO at JobsFirstNYC; and Sharon Greenberger, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater NY

The final panel titled Behavioral, Mental Health and Workforce Development Assistance through the Education System examined the concerns of students with disabilities and the mental health and wellness of all students in schools. The panel was moderated by Alex Zimmerman, a reporter for ChalkBeat NY. The panel included Assembly member Nader J. Sayegh, Chair of the students with Special Needs Committee; Erica Lynne Smith, Director of School Mental Health, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; Daliz Vazquez, Interim Acting Principal at Mosaic Preparatory Academy; Assembly member Tom Abinati, Chair of the People with Disabilities committee and Reina Batrony, Vice President of Community-Based and Education Strategies for The NY Foundling.
